Father’s Day is coming up quickly. If you haven’t found a gift yet, then it is time to get shopping. Since I am a father myself, I figured I would share a list of great gifts for every type of dad. We are all different and we love different things. Some my love power tools, while others may love watches. There are also many dads who just love homemade gifts. My father loves to just sit back, relax, and drink a beer while something is cooking on the grill. I can relate to that, especially after all of the craziness with moving. This is my second Father’s day, so I want to throw down some hints for my family if they are reading ;). Remember, I don’t advocate you going into debt over gifts, but if you have a little extra cash stashed away, then go out and get your dad something he will appreciate. DO NOT give your father socks or ties. That is so cliche and boring. Either way, here is my Father’s Day gift ideas for every dad.
The Sportsman Dad
Who doesn’t love some sports? I know that I love to play and watch hockey. I also have grown to love golf in these past few years. I just started playing last year and I like it. I have a pretty basic set, but it works for me. I would love to have a nicer set one day, but if that doesn’t work out, then I will replace my clubs as I go. Here are some gift ideas for the sportsman.
Callaway Strata Golf Set – This is a pretty good set for those wishing to hit the links. Callaway makes a good club and their sets are priced competitively. If you are an Amazon Prime member, then you can get this set shipped for free in two days.
Camping/Hiking Pants – I love to go camping and hiking. I have hiking pants that can be zipped off at the knee when it is hot. I would love another pair. They work so well and they are extremely versatile.
Wilson Tour Slam Tennis Racket – I have never been into tennis, but after playing with my wife and sister-in-law, I might think about taking it up. I had a great time. This Wilson tennis racket is a great price and would be a good gift for anyone who loves to chase that little green ball!
The Outdoor Man
I have to apologize for not including this in the beginning. There are tons of dads who love to hunt and fish. Here are some great gift ideas for those dads.
Kershaw SpeedSafe Folding Knife – What hunter or fisherman doesn’t have a knife? Kershaw makes a great knife. I have two of them and they stay sharp and take a beating.
Daiwa Minispin Reel and Rod Combo – Does your dad just love to go fishing whenever he has a chance? Get him this mini rod and reel combo with hard carrying case. He can head to the lake or river after work and keep his stuff compact!
Sentry Safe Biometric Quick Access Pistol Safe – Do you have a gun owner in the family? Guns should be protected and be locked away when not used. In order to have access to your gun quickly, this Sentry biometric safe is a great option.
Yukon Gear Men’s Insulated Parka Jacket – Hunting in the winter time can be brutal. Depending on where you live, you need a good camo jacket. This insulated parka from Yukon gear is a great price and a quality jacket.
The Gadget Dad
I have to admit that I am a gadget dad through and through. I love technology. I used to run an electronics e-commerce store and I couldn’t get enough. If anyone knows me, then they know to pick up a gadget for me. For all of those gadget loving dads, here are some gift ideas.
Amazon Fire TV – This is on my want list for sure. I am a big fan of Amazon and I have heard great things about Amazon Fire TV. I love the features and the apps that come with it. I currently use my Xbox 360 to stream Netflix, but it is cumbersome and I don’t like turning it on.
Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro Tablet – I am a big fan of Android and the open source community. I also like Samsung products. I have a tablet now, but the Samsung Galaxy Tab is a great option for those looking for a new tablet. It has a rich feature set and doesn’t have any software restrictions like Apple.
Google Chromecast – How can I have Amazon Fire TV and Chromecast in the same list? Easy, they are very different price points and Amazon’s Fire TV has more features than Chromecast. That being said, I like the idea of Chromecast and with the $35 price point, it is a great gift idea for dad.
Samsung LED TV – As I said, I like Samsung products. I have a Samsung TV and it is great. They have a large selection of internet ready and Smart TVs. Their clarity is one of the best and you can’t beat their screens. LCD is a thing of the past. If you haven’t seen an LED tv before, then I feel sorry for you.
The DIY Dad
I am a DIY guy at heart. I try to do everything I can at least once. The only way you learn is by doing. If there is something that needs to be done, you can be sure I will be there. You do have to know your limits though, but none the less, DIY is awesome. Here are some great ideas for DIY dads.
Porter-Cable Lithium Ion 4-Tool Combo Kit – I just picked up this set last week for my many projects around the house. I love it! The price is good and they battery life is awesome. I was able to cut through a hardwood door with the circular saw with no issues. It comes with two batteries and the tools are well built.
Nest Learning Thermostat – This thermostat is on my list to get. I love the technology behind this and the reviews are pretty good. I have a friend who has one and he loves it. It is easy to install and use as well.
Dropcam Pro Wireless Video Monitoring Camera – The Dropcam wireless camera is awesome. I put one in my home last year. I want another one. They are really easy to setup and you can watch your camera from your smartphone. This is a great way to have a DIY security system in place in just a few minutes.
The Stylish Dad
Some dads have style and others don’t. If you have a dad that loves to wear nice clothes and accessorize, then think about getting him some of these gift ideas.
A Watch – Watches are great to have. Everyone needs to tell time. With smartphones, we all have the time, but a watch gives you a sense of style. There are many different styles and types. If your dad is sporty, then get him a sport type watch. If he is timeless, then get him a quality built watch.
Sunglasses – Most people wear sunglasses. If you don’t need prescription sunglasses, then think about getting your dad some new sunglasses. I know I am in need of a good pair. My son loves to pull my sunglasses off my head and throw them. That really starts to take a toll on the lenses.
Braun Shaver System – If your dad has facial hair, then this is the system for him. This is one of the highest rated shavers out there and it works! Keeping up with facial hair can be a struggle, but not with this shaver.
